William Ivey Long

Between Taste and Travesty: Costume Designs by William Ivey Long. Broadway costume designer William Ivey Long will return to his home state of North Carolina this spring for a special exhibition at the Cameron Art Museum, Wilmington, N.C., showcasing his distinguished career. This exhibition, Long’s first in a museum, celebrates the glitz and glamour of musical-theater, and the creative genius of Long’s celebrated designs. The exhibition features costumes, sketches, and accessories from the artist’s personal archives. Long, a four-time recipient of the Tony Award, has outfitted fifty Broadway shows and was inducted into the Theater Hall of Fame this summer. Most recently, his work was seen in the movie version of The Producers, a production which required 7,000 costumes. He has been nominated for ten Tony Awards, and his work – from sleek and chic in Guys and Dolls to outrageous in Stephen Sondheim’s Frogs – has received acclaim on Broadway and beyond.
