Play civil War era games with site staff and volunteers!
Learn about period games and toys as you are encouraged to
play with examples provided by Fort Fisher State Historic
Site. Kids of all ages will enjoy hoop races, games of
graces as well as many more. Large games of townball (an
early version of baseball) will be played on grounds

Double Sprint Triathlon 2008
The very first "Formula 1" or super sprint style
triathlon in the U.S. The Kure Beach Double Sprint is now
in it's 12th year. Competitors start out with a 375 meter
ocean swim. Upon exiting the water, participants put on
their running gear at the "Beach Transition
Area" and run 1.5 miles to the "Town Hall
Transition Area". Participants then complete a 10K
bike ride on a closed course. With no rest - participants
immediately ride the 10 K bike course again finishing at
the "Town Hall Transition Area". Then it's back
on with the running gear for the 1.5 mile run back to the
"Beach Transition Area". Participants complete
the race by once again swimming the 375 meter course. See

A Star-Spangled
Weekend
To celebrate the rededication of the renovated and
restored Hannah Block Historic USO, the City of
Wilmington, Thalian Association, the Community Arts Center
Accord, and the WWII Wilmington Home Front Heritage
Coalition will host a weekend of WWII-theme festivities. A
historic treasure, the Hannah Block Historic USO is one of
only a handful of WWII USO structures remaining in the
U.S. Weekend festivities begin on July 3rd with an
official re-dedication ceremony (5pm). On July 4th, a USO
big band dance (donations accepted) takes place from
6-9pm, followed by the traditional July 4th Battleship
Blast, an extraordinary fireworks show along the Cape Fear
Riverfront (9pm). On July 6, an Open House (1-5pm,
donations accepted) will feature a WWII militaria exhibit,
a WWII book signing, and tours of the newly renovated
building. At 3pm (also on July 6), a "Star Spangled
Girls" revue will showcase the talents of five
professional actresses in the roles of WWII women in
uniform (admission charge for revue). For more details

Weekend at Moores Creek

Annual Cape Fear 7's Rugby Tournament. Cape Fear 7's is
the oldest and largest 7-a-side weekend rugby tournament

Wooden Boat
Festival
Presented by the CFCC Boat Building program, the festival
serves as an annual celebration of the tradition and craft
of wooden boat building. CFCC's wooden boat festival
attracts thousands of visitors every year. This year, the
event will feature over 50 wooden boats, including kayaks,
skiffs, and boats from the Simmons Sea Skiff Club.
Students in CFCC's Boat Building program will exhibit
their own work and conduct demonstrations of traditional
boat building techniques like bending wood using steam.
