Historic Preservation ... Saving the Best of Our Past for Our Future

Founded in 1739, Wilmington boasts one of the largest districts listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Wilmington takes pride in its reputation as a leader in preservation efforts. Downtown Wilmington is a place where revitalization has proceeded with honor, dignity and respect, preserving the social and artistic heritage of days gone by. See the historic district's mansions and landmark buildings via horse-drawn trolley or carriage tour, riverboat cruise, restored trolley car, or take a walking tour given by some of the port city's most intriguing residents.

New Hanover County is a perennial leader in North Carolina in preservation work, and continues to lead the state in the number of tax credit projects. New North Carolina Historic Preservation Tax Credits took effect January 1, 1998. The new law increases the existing state credit for certified rehabilitations of income-producing historic property from 5% to 20%, and for the first time provides a 30% credit for certified rehabilitations of non-income-producing historic structures, including private residences. When combined with Federal Historic Preservation Tax Credits, rehabilitating historic buildings becomes even more desirable.

Rhonda Schoolfield (Broker In Charge) of Representing Buyers Only Inc. is experienced in historic rehabilitation and adaptive re-use. Her knowledge of Historic Preservation Technology paired with her experience with tax credit implementation make her a valuable resource for investors and developers of historic properties.
